Meet the Lake Family

We’re the Lake family! Brandon, Brittany, Blaise, Beau, and Banner, and Awendaw Farms is something we’re incredibly grateful to call ours.

Our farm is tucked away in Awendaw, South Carolina, just a short drive from where we both have deep roots in the Lowcountry. Brandon grew up down the road in Mount Pleasant, and Brittany came to Charleston to play soccer at the College of Charleston. Somewhere along the way, we found ourselves dreaming about a life that looked a little different…less hustle and bustle, more dirt, animals, and a little more room to slow down.

Brittany has always loved animals, and Brandon has always loved the idea of building something and creating with his hands. Somehow, those two things came together, and our dream farm ended up practically in our backyard.

What started as a dream quickly became a lesson in just how much work farming and caring for animals actually requires. It’s hard work, but it’s also some of the most rewarding work we’ve ever done.

Today, Awendaw Farms is home to a herd of Brahman-Angus cattle, and we’re now breeding a Wagyu-Angus cross with the goal of raising exceptional, farm-raised beef for our family and friends. We also have three miniature donkeys and, of course, Eddie, the old Berkshire pig whose greatest contribution to farm life may be his unusual talent for chugging Diet Dr Pepper.

Life on the farm has brought us some of our greatest joys, but it has also taught us firsthand about loss. There are days that make us wonder why we ever chose this life, followed by days that remind us exactly why we did.

At the heart of Awendaw Farms is a deep sense of gratitude. We’re grateful for this land, for the animals God has entrusted to our care, and for the opportunity to participate in His creation. There is something special about knowing where your food came from, knowing the land it was raised on, the hands that cared for it, and the life that ultimately provides for another family.

That’s where our pride in what we raise comes from.
From the life we get to love, all the way to the plate.

In a world that seems to change faster every day, we believe there is real value in getting back to the land, understanding our food, and remembering the importance of the farms and farmers who help feed our communities.

More than anything, we hope Awendaw Farms continues to be a place where our boys can grow up with dirt on their boots, where family and friends can gather around the table, and where we never lose our gratitude for every animal, every season, every rain, and every day God gives us on this land.

“And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.”
